Career
Brian worked on so many different projects in his lifetime. We don’t have this list. Could you help? What jobs/projects do you remember? Please share with us!
Brian was proud of a lot of work he did, but usually most proud when he could optimize for what people needed and see how it benefited them. Design-build construction scratched that itch well, as did things like helping frantic home buyers with New Home Warranty claims – coming up with clever ways to fix their problems without having to radically renovate their brand-new home.
That said, Brian was probably most proud of his accomplishments with the Regina Public School Board. He brought in the highly respected Fielding Nair architectural firm and changed how schools in Regina were designed and built. He saw how the spaces we learn in affect how we learn – and how well we take to learning. In this, he could use all of his skills – from design, to empathy for the users, to the constraints and challenges of the communities and budgets of the schools. And the results would improve the lives of students and the city for years to come. All in all, that was incredibly fulfilling for Brian.

A Creative Engineer
Brian was respected and praised by so many who worked with him over the years. He was honest – sometimes to a fault – which was a great basis for trust. Combined with his ability to understand engineering problems and see the range of possible solutions, he was deeply respected in his profession.
His ability to see solutions came in part from a nearly intuitive understanding of how buildings existed – their structure, construction, and natural movement. That deep understanding paired well with his incredible creativity, which allowed him to leverage his years of experience and see options few others considered.
